this is the 50th year for madeleine l’engle’s a wrinkle in time.

i never read it as a kid.  the cover i knew then (center above) was super freeky, and i was horrified to find my sister reading a book with such a dark cover.  years later taeeun yoo’s palatable version (cover right) came out and i discovered what i was missing out on.

anyway, if your a fan of l’engle’s work,  npr has a story this week on the 50th worth checking out.

(…also just have to point out this great quote from rebecca stead  in the npr article (italics mine) — “A Wrinkle in Time also asks these huge questions, really, about the universe, and good and evil, and the power of love, and all of this crazy science and complex ideas. It assumes that kids are able to think about all that stuff. I think that a lot of people forget that, or never realize it, but a children’s book is really the best place to ask big questions. Our worlds get smaller as we get older”…)

thoroughly enjoyed drawing all the triangles.  i’ve never really liked triangles – i’m more the blue circle type – but have been recently embracing design elements i usually avoid — only to discover that i actually like triangles very much.  (and burnt orange for that matter, which didn’t make it into this design but has been popping up in other things i’m working on.  go figure.)
