and just today discovered who’s behind the beauty–calligrapher jane farr.  her flourishes are pure inspiration.  is anybody seeing this?  yummy.

…poking around in my sister kim’s creative space this morning.  the way she organizes her notions makes them into something like museum piece.  you pick up a button and hold it in your hand with a kind of awe, thinking,’ surely whatever this button goes onto will be nothing short of a serene masterpiece’.  recent acquisitions to the collection: remnants from fog linen work and primele’s very first roll of happy tape (we are very happy).

i saw anna put up bre’s wedding certificate poster yesterday

and today i find myself thinking back on good times.  bre and i met back in our teenage years working at a camp up the adirondacks for the summer, and i still find myself wishing our heads were only a bunk apart.  there are few people i have met more spirited or full of stories.  with lots of distance between us these days i am proving how dreadful of a pen pal i am, while begging her to believe me that she is often in my thoughts.  sigh.  well, her wedding was all the beauty, a honest reflection of the girl i know.  love ya bre…i’ll try to put a letter in the mail today.

p.s. anna

if i haven’t told you enough already all the papers were lovely..everything they should have been for our bre.

i’m getting all sappy eyed.  i better get off now and go maka-me some coffee.

have you seen what heather moore is doing?

…and thank you jubilee events for the kind word…and wow, that first picture from the oxford airport wedding is one moving photo. follow the link and you’ll see what i mean.

thanks kenzie kate for the shout out

i was at the library today and came across a fascinating book, dolls of the world by gwen smith.  its got gobs and gobs doodles and funky little paintings that are irresistible. even now it sits by my side.  maybe i’ll look at it just one more time…for tonight.

i made a discovery this summer of a hidden treasure in my neighborhood.  tucked away on the edge of town is the robin hill arboretum, an estate of the william smith family, set aside as a sort of museum for trees.  from what i can gather the smith family made a name for themselves making applesauce,  and out of their love for the trees that bore them so much fruit, the father (william) began collecting.   left behind for today is a property containing a variety of over 250 trees open for all tree appreciators to come and enjoy.

autumn is a kind of celebration of trees, and so it seemed especially appropriate to visit on this very fine fall day:

yeah for michael lauritano who is the featured illustrator for the month of october over at scbwi (society of children’s book writers + illustrators)!  here, my friends, is a true storyteller.  mikey is a buddy of mine from RISD, and he’s the real deal book world.  freedom of a 5 year old, imagination of a 10 year old,- storytelling prowelness of a 45 yo, and some random quirks of a crotchety old man–he’s a recipe for adventure.  let’s see, what else can i say about mikey…last i knew he wore white keds (thats the 5 yo) and zip hoodies (the 10 yo) parted his hair to the side (45 yo) and wore a tweed cap (crotchety old man). he always came to my tea parties, probably likes dinosaurs, eats maxibons (an amazing italian ice cream sandwich concoction), and when his first book comes out he’s going to dedicate it to me–the bestest studio mate anyone could ask for ever (hey mikey, remember that lady who sang horrible opera the window over from us?  well, i do, but i don’t think joe does because he was never in studio).

look for more mikey here.
